MUSIC

All of the different types of music learned in this class were incredible. The ways music changed, and how it was and still is incorporated in everyday life shows the significance music has. One prime example is the first rap video, made by Blondie. The revolution her music had on the generation during that time period shows the influence technology has upon us. The technology of the music, as well as the art of the performance, is only one of the numerous ways art and technology can impact us. Music and performance shock and amaze us, leaving us in an awe of admiration. This can be compared to a variety of performers who have left an imprint in the music industry. Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, etc..

Un Chien Andalu

After viewing Un Chien Andalu, I feel that it can be represented as a love story. Maybe my mind is just really lackadaisical, but from my perspective, anything can be viewed as a love story. One can love to hate, or hate to love, either way love is incorporated.

On the subject of Un Chien Andalu, there are random events that are shown that begin to have no correlation with each other, but end with two gravestones beside each other, which represent a relationship in my mind. This fifteen and a half minute film was completely random, with no story line. The film started out with a man cutting a woman's eye with a razor. The next scene shows a man dressed in a nun's apparel riding a bicycle and collapsing. The scene after shows a woman running over to the collapsed man, and then she is shown in an apartment laying out clothes on a bed. This woman and a man are then looking out a window to see another young woman on the middle of the street with a cane moving a hand that is laying on the street. The cops come, then leave. The woman on the street is left standing there by herself, when she is hit by a car. The man with the woman in the apartment is intrigued by the fact that the woman he is with is nervous and frightened by all of these occurrences, and he starts to touch her. She allows him at first, then runs away. The man then drags over two grand pianos. ..

Okay, well I have just realized I am not explaining why I feel this movie is a love story. I will stop summarizing and explain my thoughts now.

This movie, or whatever it may be called, has absolutely no plot. However, it is still unique and interesting because of this. The scenes switch over from a man being shot in the apartment. As he falls, he falls in a new location. He is now somewhere else, and falls on the bare back of a woman kneeling down. This is extremely interesting because the change in the setting is completely random. As is another scene where the woman is running in what seems like an apartment building, and then is running on a beach. There she embraces with a man, who seems to be her lover. The movie then ends with footage of two gravestones beside one another.

In my opinion, the most important part of a movie is the ending. The ending is what brings a movie together, and proves its point. The two gravestones next to each other at the end symbolizes, from my perspective, the love two souls have for one another. Based on today's society, it is a custom to bury a person where, and next to whom they request. Due to this, I would call the random events of Un Chien Andalu a love story.

DUCHAMP'S URINAL

Duchamp taught audiences how to change an outlook of an object, such as the urinal. Art is as broad as one's mind allows it to be, and Duchamp proves this through the urinal, and Mona Lisa's "her ass is on fire". Nothing can ever be taken too seriously, or objectively for that matter.

After learning about Duchamp, I was inspired to go into the men's room and take pictures of the urinals.

Unfortunately, men do not flush nowadays.

Video Games

Girls are generally not interested in video games for many reasons, that can and can not be explained. As a girl myself, I remember growing up playing with barbie dolls while my brothers raced with Hot Wheels. The explanation to this leads to many different psychological theories, that would correlate with why females are not generally interested in video games.

In my opinion, the shape of society creates all that we are today, as human beings. Our surroundings characterize us and cause us to react toward a variety of things differently. The younger generation is extremely influential by their surroundings. Due to this, anything and everything that can be seen or heard by them will more than likely have a huge impact on them, and the way that they grow to act.

Females and males both have "standards" to meet, if not by society, than by their family and friends. To meet these standards, both sexes tend to act in a way in which that is expected of them. This, in my opinion, subconsciously trains the mind to have the same interests as others of their own kind. As most females do tend to have the same "motherly" nature in them, females are also known to enjoy getting their hair done, or gossip more than males do. These traits are brought on by each other, which in turn uniforms and brings out how a majority of females feel about certain things, and whether or not it is appealing to their nature.

A majority of females do not like video games because in younger years, we were so strongly influenced by the older females around us, that we grew up with similar likes and dislikes that were brought on by the older, female generation. I do believe that due to society, the feminine gender role reacts toward certain things in similar ways, thus causing a majority of girls and women to become uninterested in video games.

Disney's Templates

Disney is an infamous company that is known to create wonderful animations that tell brilliant myths that have been passed on for centuries. These myths have been slightly altered by Disney to accommodate with its youthful audience. All of these myths are all meant to tell a fairy tale. All of these tales, in which, end in a happy ending. From all that I have learned in class, I feel that there is a lot more to Disney than the innocent aspect of the retelling of stories.

All of these myths seem to tell the same story, according to the Disney movies. It almost always starts with some sort of damsel in distress that overcomes obstacles in which then leads to a blissful ending. Although characters may be named differently and may have different characteristics, they all follow a similar plot, and ironically, all have very similar body outlines that go along with very similar actions.

The irony in the technical level of these templates is, in my opinion, an act of human nature. People tend to slack off in one form or another, especially if they know they can get away with it. Disney is a huge corporation that have obviously reused the same templates for a variety of their movies. In technical terms, this can be looked at as repetition. In conceptual terms, however, this can be looked at very differently.

Audiences view these conceptually different, however, despite the technological identities between these movies. As a member of the audience, I view these movies conceptually different as well. Each story holds different characters, that have their own unique physical characteristics, despite their outline. The voices of each character, the drawn in differences, and the aspect of each character are different from the other movies, thus personalizing the movie. The magic in each movie holds true, regardless of the repeated template usage.

Singing in the Rain

The remake of “Singing in the Rain” in “Orange Clockwork” was absolutely fantastic. The modernized version completely contrasts the innocence of the original performance. Despite this discrepancy, both versions are absolutely incredible. The song is shown in a way that it would appeal to its audience. To be blunt, the first version is just an example of the innocence of the audience’s infatuation with the song, the dance, and the other images in the film. The modernized version appeals to the audience in the newer generation because by that time, the novelty of the images and sound have basically worn off. However, the intelligence of its performance demonstrates it all. Both performances portray the beauty of the song, and based on the time of each performance, the song resumes its reputation as a pure classic.

Earthquake

When we went to Universal Studios we rode the ride Disaster. My dad was actually picked to be a part of the “movie” in Universal Studios. The ride was on a train, and we rode into a “subway station” where we experienced an “earthquake”. Water flooded into the station, surrounding the train that we were in. A truck fell through into the station and for those couple of minutes we were part of the disaster. The ride Disaster in Universal is based on the movie Earthquake. The ride was originally called Earthquake, but then it was modified to the name “Disaster”.

Notes with phone conversation with my dad

Impact, heartwarming, Disaster ride on universal, talks about natural disaster, really loud, how human beings get together to save everybody, care about each other, shows how powerful mother nature can be, saw it when he was a kid, my dad saw it with his mom in the movie theater. My dad’s mother’s sister lives in San Francisco and they have a lot of earthquakes which is why my dad’s mom was interested. It started as a small tremor and then it decimates Earth. The sound in the theater was okay. There was no stereo back then but it was still very loud. My dad saw it in 1970.

Clearwater Beach

In terms of multiple senses, Clearwater Beach is a fascinating example of how people use all their senses to appreciate their beautiful surroundings. Yesterday, my friends and I took a trip to the beach, and it was fantastic. The scene was absolutely gorgeous, with many tourists. Not only was I taking in my surroundings, but it was amazing to know that hundreds of other people were enjoying themselves as well through their senses.

As mentioned in class, smell, sight, taste, hearing, and touch were all used during the blurry time of the "Surge of Church". Although all my senses were being used at the beach instead of a church, it was very parallel to that experience. My senses at the beach were much more enjoyable of course, due to the fact that the people in the church were very cramped and had no restrooms, but the senses used in everyday life are essential. Without it, one would not be able to appreciate the beautiful, simple things in life.

Intro
I love college. As a junior, I know that my college years will always be ones that I will remember for the rest of my life. I love learning about all aspects of the world around me, and most importantly, I am infatuated with people. The vibes I get from the people around me are incredible, and I am truly blessed to be living the life that I live.

My thoughts and feelings I have about this class are amazing. The atmosphere was comfortable, and sometimes that is all that really matters. I believe that a good learning environment entails good communication with others in the room, and I feel that was very well accomplished the first day of class. Although one can not judge so quickly, it is still a very appealing feeling.

Expectations are bittersweet, because if they are set too high, it would be very disappointing if the par was not met. However, expecting to learn new things in this class is one that is practically a given. The word "new" happens everyday. No day is ever the same, and I am absolutely positive this class will only expand on the new criteria I am exposed to on a daily basis. With this being said, knowledge continues to grow, as this class will help me grow as a student, a peer, and most importantly, a person.

Miami

This weekend was amazing, as it always is. I just arrived home from Miami after a long road trip. A good portion of my weekend consisted of shopping, sight seeing, and spending time with some of the people I love the most. The malls I visited reminded me very much of what was learned in class.

After learning about the fourth wall, I have begun to notice the significance of it. Niketown, for example, had a lot of displays of trophies and other types of sports memorabilia that are meant to be viewed and recognized by visitors in the store. The displays proved to be, in my opinion, just one of the many examples a fourth wall would be.

Although the fourth wall is usually looked at as the side of the room where a performance is held, the displays in the malls in Miami were very much similar. For one, the displays were meant to be viewed, such as a play. Despite the fact there was no performance being held on that fourth wall, it was still being observed, and respected. Boundaries would be crossed if one tried to meddle with the display. This is parallel to a member of an audience attempting to participate in a performance being held in the frames of the fourth wall. The reasoning to this, is because anything shown in the frame is what is being presented.

On a different aspect, whoever is doing the actual framing has power. As the camera man picks and chooses what is filmed and what will be presented on the fourth wall, the manager of a store, for example, decides what would be displayed and presented to the audience. The fourth wall shows all that is meant to be noticed, and the observers subconsciously recognize this.
